The Shadow

Beneath the ordered surface of the Persona lies what Jung called the Shadow: the repository of everything the conscious mind refuses to acknowledge. It is not merely evil—it is the whole and unheroiceverything we deny in ourselves aspects of our nature.

The Shadow travels with us as an invisible companionthe part we project onto others, exerting its influence through projection—we see our own disowned qualitiesrage, desire, envy, fear reflected in the world around us. Hover where the text seems most ordinaryand find what hides beneath. The Shadow communicates through what irritates us in othersbecause it lives in us too.

Projection
"Everything that irritates us about others can lead us to an understanding of ourselves." The Shadow speaks by pointing outward.
Integration
To make the Shadow conscious is not to eliminate it, but to assimilate its energy— transforming lead into gold.
The Bag
Robert Bly described it as a long bag we drag behind us, stuffed with all we were told we must not be.
The Gift
The Shadow contains not only our worst but our finest qualities— greatness buried alongside shame.

The Threshold — Tension of Opposites

You stand between two worlds.
Which do you choose?

The transcendent function arises only from the friction between opposites.

Neither. Both. The goal of individuation is not to choose one pole
but to hold the tension between them until a third thing emerges—
a symbol that transcends and reconciles the opposites.
